General comments

  • Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) wordt veroorzaakt door exfoliatieve toxines, op de productie hiervan heeft antibiotica geen effect. Echter, gezien het feit dat het ziektebeeld frequent door sepsis gecompliceerd wordt, wordt aanbevolen om in principe wel met intraveneuze antibiotica te starten. Bij klinisch herstel en gebleken afwezigheid van bacteriemie kan er per os worden uitbehandeld (totale behandelduur 5-7 dagen). Bij bacteriemie behandelen conform S. aureus sepsis (minimaal twee weken intraveneus).
  • Voor adjuvante behandeling met clindamycine (om toxineproductie te remmen) is onvoldoende bewijs.
